What are the symptoms of gestational diabetes?

If you think you might have gestational diabetes, keep a look out for the top three symptoms:

– Being tired

– Feeling thirsty

– Needing to wee often.

These are signs of all forms of diabetes, including in pregnancy, which is referred to as gestational diabetes.

You may find that these three signs are also regular symptoms of many pregnancies. There are also things that you might experience without having gestational diabetes.

Other things to be aware of include;

  • Rapid weight gain. A fast increase in your weight during pregnancy can increase your risk of diabetes. This can be a reason for earlier testing of gestational diabetes (before 26 weeks).

If you have a baby that is growing quickly and is large for dates, this can be associated with gestational diabetes, and your doctor may encourage additional testing throughout your pregnancy.

Melbourne women are encouraged to make an appointment with our rooms to discuss any concerns about managing diabetes and pregnancy.
