The Embrace Program with Dr Peter England

Dr Peter England is one of the obstetricians offering the Embrace Program at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Fitzroy. The Embrace Program gives you the personal care of your own obstetrician and midwife team, at a lower out-of-pocket cost than standard private obstetric care.

If you want continuity with an experienced obstetrician through your pregnancy and birth, without the full cost of a standard private fee, the Embrace Program is worth discussing with your GP.

Call the rooms on (03) 9415 9088 to ask if Embrace is right for you.

What Is the Embrace Program?

The Embrace Program is a shared model of care between your obstetrician and the midwifery team at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Fitzroy. Your antenatal appointments are split between the two, so you still see Dr Peter England as your chosen obstetrician throughout your pregnancy, but with fewer individual consultations than a fully private model. This reduces your out-of-pocket cost while keeping continuity of your choice in doctor for your birth.

It’s designed for women having a straightforward, low-risk pregnancy who want private hospital care without the full private obstetric fee.

Embrace Program FAQs

Does the Embrace Program cost less than standard private obstetric care?

Yes. Because your antenatal visits are shared between Dr England and the Embrace midwifery team, your out-of-pocket cost is lower than a fully private obstetric model, while you still have Dr England as your named obstetrician for your birth.

Do I need a GP referral to see Dr Peter England?

Yes. A referral from your GP is required so you can claim your Medicare rebate for your antenatal and postnatal appointments.

Can I stay in the Program if a problem develops during my pregnancy?

The Embrace Program is a low-risk model of care. If anything changes, the midwifery team will bring Dr England in for a full consultation, and he’ll decide whether you continue in the Embrace Program or move to standard obstetric care with him.

How many times will I see Dr England during my Embrace pregnancy?

You’ll see Dr England at key points through your pregnancy, with your remaining antenatal visits managed by the Embrace midwifery team. Your first appointment with him will confirm your schedule.

What if I develop gestational diabetes during my pregnancy?

Dr England has a particular interest in gestational diabetes and pregnancy. If you’re diagnosed, he can manage your care directly, including if that means stepping outside the standard Embrace model.
